Material comfort does not by itself provide knowledge, judgment or considerate conduct. The contrast separates receiving resources from the learning and relationships that help a person use them well.
Example
A new member receives excellent equipment but no explanation of the group’s procedure. After an avoidable mistake, the group adds an induction session instead of treating good supplies as sufficient training.
Deeper explanation and when to use it
The source places nourishment beside teaching to show that different needs can be met unevenly. A person may be well provided for while still lacking guidance in a particular task or situation. That is a reason to attend to learning, not to condemn the person’s character from one mistake. Instruction works best when expectations are explained and practice is possible. The saying also leaves room to ask whether those responsible for teaching supplied useful support, rather than assuming that resources alone should have produced competence.
