Begone unbelief, my Saviour is near, And for my relief will surely appear; By prayer let me wrestle, and He will perform; With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm. His love in time past forbids me to think He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink; Each sweet Ebenezer I have in review, Confirms His good pleasure to help me quite through. Why should I complain of want or distress, Temptation or pain? he told me no less! The heirs of salvation, I know from His word, Through much tribulation must follow their Lord.

True zeal is merciful and mild, Can pity and forbear; The false is headstrong, fierce, and wild; And breathes revenge and war. Zeal has attained its highest aim, Its end is satisfied, If sinners love the Saviour’s name, Nor seeks it ought beside.

Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God! He, whose word cannot be broken, Formed thee for His own abode. On the rock of ages founded, What can shake Thy sure repose? With salvation’s walls surrounded, Thou may’st smile at all Thy foes. Saviour, if of Zion’s city I through grace a member am, Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in the name. Fading is the worldling’s pleasure, All his boasted pomp and show; Solid joys, and lasting treasure, None but Zion’s children know.
