Meaning in plain English
A specialist may benefit from another person’s observations. Different perspectives can add relevant information, without making every opinion equally informed or replacing the expertise the situation requires.
What the words are saying
The two contrasting figures suggest knowledge contributed from more than one position. A person with specialised training may still lack an observation that someone else can supply. The proverb values listening across a difference in status or experience rather than assuming that one person already has every relevant fact. It does not follow that every contribution is correct or that technical judgement can be replaced by a vote. The useful response asks what each person has actually noticed and how that information should be checked. The image can be applied to ordinary collaboration without turning it into instructions for medical treatment.
Everyday example
A tutor adjusts a lesson after a learner explains which instruction was confusing, adding the learner’s experience to the tutor’s subject knowledge.
When to use it
Use it when a specialist needs relevant observations from someone with a different perspective.
