Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment
Traditional

Historical period not yet established

Meaning in plain English

Good judgment arising from experience and experience from bad judgment gives errors a possible role in later understanding. The saying creates a learning loop.

What the words are saying

A lot is not a measured proportion, and improvement is not automatic. A responsible application can examine evidence from an error while addressing consequences, without making preventable harm necessary. Sound preparation and others’ experience can also support judgment, and repeating an error is not a requirement.

Everyday example

A learner reviews a poor decision and checks what a changed approach would address.

When to use it

Use it to discuss reflection on experience with consequences respected.

What it does not mean

No required bad decision or guaranteed improved judgment is established.
